Southern Miss Men’s Golf Finishes Third at Sun Belt Championships
Madison, Miss. — Southern Miss men’s golf finished the first round of the Sun Belt Championships in third place with an even 288 at the Annandale Golf Club on Monday afternoon, according to school officials.
Benjamin Fernandez fired a 3-under 69, tying for second place and leading the Golden Eagles. He recorded five birdies during the round. Supakorn Amornchaichan also contributed with an eagle on the last hole, finishing at 1-over 73, along with Matthew Javier and Jake Moffitt, who each also shot 73. Moffitt had five birdies, tying Fernandez for the team lead.
Southern Miss trails Coastal Carolina, which leads with a 6-under 282, and Arkansas State, second with a 4-under 284. South Alabama sits in fourth at 1-over 289, followed by James Madison at 2-over 290 to round out the top five.
Walker Wise posted a 74, placing him inside the top 30, with two birdies on par-4 and par-5 holes. Javier and Wise are tied for seventh in pars with 13 each. The second round is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. Tuesday with a shotgun start to avoid expected afternoon weather.
