Rougetet Wins Hammer Title at SEC Outdoor Championships

AUBURN, Ala. — Mississippi State track and field opened the SEC Outdoor Championships with a strong first day, highlighted by Marie Rougetet’s victory in the hammer throw, according to meet notes.

Rougetet secured her first SEC outdoor title with a throw of 69.25 meters, maintaining the lead throughout the competition. She is the first female SEC outdoor champion from Mississippi State since 2018 and the program’s first-ever in the hammer throw.

The Bulldogs’ throws squad also produced scoring performances from Juha Narhi and Tuomas Narhi. Juha Narhi finished seventh in the hammer with a mark of 66.48 meters, setting a program record and earning two points. Tuomas Narhi placed sixth in the javelin with a throw of 74.30 meters, adding three points for the team.

Sacha Rifflart led the decathlon after day one, setting personal bests in the shot put and long jump. He will complete the final five events Saturday, starting with the 110-meter hurdles. Meanwhile, freshman Ife Adisa clocked 2:03.03 in the 800-meter preliminary, setting a new freshman record and qualifying for the final scheduled for Saturday.

In the women’s 10,000 meters, Naomi Jepleting posted a personal best of 34:01.28, extending her second-fastest time in program history. Harry Ross-Hughes and Sam Navarro also advanced to the 800-meter final, which will follow the women’s race on day three of the meet.
