Prairie View A&M tops Mississippi Valley State in season finale
Prairie View A&M beat Mississippi Valley State 14-4 in eight innings Saturday at Tankersley Field in Prairie View, Texas, ending the Delta Devils’ baseball season, according to the school.
Mississippi Valley, which finished with a 12-37 record and went 8-22 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play, has lost all 11 meetings with Prairie View A&M since 2011. The Panthers improved to 14-36 overall and 10-18 in SWAC competition.
Jace Jones led off for Mississippi Valley with his third homer of the year, his fifth at Valley, during his only at-bat. Chris Soeder had his final game with a multi-RBI performance, driving in one run with a single and adding a sacrifice fly. Tanner Aoki reached safely in all three of his plate appearances, with two singles and a walk. Israel Ramos contributed an RBI groundout, was hit by a pitch, and stole the team’s only base.
The Delta Devils finished with 12 wins, their most SWAC victories since 2018, and ended their season with a series of performances that showed some progress. The team’s social media accounts include updates on their campaign on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
Prairie View A&M’s scoring was highlighted by a home run from Jace Jones in the first inning and a three-RBI double by Jordan Williams in the sixth. The Panthers also homered in the eighth to cap the game, with Michael Burroughs driving in two runs on his homer.
The season marks the end of Mississippi Valley State’s 2026 campaign, which included a total of 12 wins and their best conference showing in several years.
