Prairie View A&M Beats Mississippi Valley State 11-1 in Series Opener
Prairie View A&M’s baseball team defeated Mississippi Valley State 11-1 in eight innings Friday at Tankersley Field in Prairie View, Texas. The victory marks the Panthers’ sixth straight win over the Delta Devils since 2011, according to team records.
Mississippi Valley State, with a season record of 12-35 overall and 8-20 in SWAC play, struggled offensively in the opener. The Delta Devils managed only one run on seven hits, while Prairie View A&M improved to 12-36 overall and 8-18 in conference play.
Top performers for Mississippi Valley included Kendall Brookins, who went 3-for-4 with all singles, and Ty Burns, who recorded a double and a single. Israel Ramos also contributed with multiple hits. On the mound, Matthew Cuzco pitched a clean sixth inning, striking out one batter without allowing a run.
The Panthers’ offense was led by Tyvon Moore, who scored twice and drove in two runs. Gabe Huelsing and Ryland Duson each drove in two runs, with Duson doubling and scoring in the seventh inning. The game was highlighted by efficient pitching from Prairie View A&M, which limited the Delta Devils’ offense throughout.
