No. 13 Mississippi State Falls to Texas A&M in Regular Season Finale
COLLEGE STATION, Texas — No. 13 Mississippi State fell 7-6 to No. 10 Texas A&M in the final game of the regular season Saturday at Blue Bell Park.
The Bulldogs (39-16, 16-14 SEC) outhit the Aggies 11-7 and erased multiple deficits, including one in the eighth inning on Jacob Parker’s two-run homer. However, Mississippi State issued 13 walks, which Texas A&M capitalized on during late rally attempts, according to the game summary.
Bear Harrison delivered a two-run single in the bottom of the eighth to lift Texas A&M (39-13, 18-11) past Mississippi State. The Bulldogs’ Noah Sullivan went 3-for-4 with a home run, three runs scored, and an RBI. Jacob Parker finished 2-for-4 with a two-run homer. Ace Reese hit his 20th home run of the season, joining Will Clark and Rafael Palmeiro as the only players in program history to have back-to-back 20-plus home run seasons.
Texas A&M took an early lead without a hit in the third inning, scoring after a walk and an error. Mississippi State responded in the fourth with Sullivan’s single and a bases-loaded groundout to tie the game. The Aggies retook the lead in the bottom half, with RBI singles and a sacrifice fly.
The game remained tight until the eighth, when Sullivan’s single and Parker’s two-run homer put the Bulldogs ahead 6-5. Texas A&M’s final rally began with a walk, a single, and a sacrifice bunt before Harrison’s game-winning single scored two runs. Freshcorn earned the win for the Aggies, while Charlie Foster took the loss for Mississippi State, which used seven pitchers in the game. The Bulldogs now await their seeding for the SEC Tournament in Hoover, Alabama.
