Ole Miss Softball Dominates Southern Miss with 12-5 Win

OXFORD, Miss. – The Ole Miss softball team posted a 12-5 victory over Southern Miss on Tuesday at the Ole Miss Softball Stadium. The Rebels improved to 28-12 overall, while the Golden Eagles fell to 30-20.

The Rebels launched four home runs in the game, including two from Madi George, who went 3-for-3 with two homers, a double, and an intentional walk. Lilly Whitten pitched 3.1 innings of one-hit relief to earn the win, striking out three.

Southern Miss struck first, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. The Rebels responded immediately, opening their half with five consecutive hits and six straight players reaching base. Persy Llamas delivered an RBI single, and George doubled home another run to tie the game. Cassie Reasner cleared the bases with a three-run homer, giving Ole Miss a 5-2 lead.

George continued her offensive surge in the second inning, launching a two-run home run after a hit-by-pitch. In the third, Laylonna Applin added a solo shot to extend the lead to 8-2. Despite Southern Miss clawing back with three runs in the fourth, the Rebels responded with a solo homer from George and a double from Reasner that drove in a run, making it 10-5.

Ole Miss continued to add insurance runs in the later innings. Reasner’s RBI double and a sacrifice fly from Rachel Connors pushed the lead to 12-5. Whitten closed out the game with a strikeout in the final inning, sealing the victory. The Rebels will next play at Auburn in a three-game SEC series beginning Friday at 6 p.m. CT, streamed on SEC Network Plus.
