Ole Miss baseball routs Murray State 19-2 with season-high five homers
Ole Miss baseball dominated Murray State 19-2 on Tuesday night at Swayze Field, securing a seven-inning win behind a season-high five home runs. The Rebels (30-12) scored their most runs of the season and surpassed the 10-run mark for the 11th time this year.
Seven starters recorded hits, with Judd Utermark and Owen Paino each collecting three hits and four RBIs. Utermark hit two home runs, tying him with Ole Miss legend Tim Elko for the second-most career homers in school history. Paino also hit his third homer of the season.
Pitcher Owen Kelly earned the win after tossing four no-hit innings with six strikeouts. Murray State starter Preston Chaudoin took the loss. The Rebels took an early lead in the second inning and exploded offensively in the fourth and fifth innings, scoring 17 runs across those two frames.
In the bottom of the fourth, Utermark launched his first home run of the night, scoring himself and Tristan Bissetta. Hayden Federico and Topher Jones added their second homers of the season in consecutive at-bats. Owen Paino then hit his third homer of the season, capping the inning’s offensive surge.
Ole Miss continued to score with contact hits and an array of walks in the following innings. The team scored seven runs in the fourth and fifth innings alone, extending its lead and maintaining offensive momentum. The Rebels will host Georgia this weekend, beginning Friday at 6:30 p.m. Central Time.
