Ole Miss Soccer wraps three-game road trip with match against UAB
Ole Miss Soccer travels to Birmingham, Alabama, to face UAB on Sunday at 6 p.m., marking the final game of a three-match road stretch. The Rebels enter the contest with a 3-0 record, having won their first three matches of the season.
In their most recent game, Ole Miss defeated College of Charleston 1-0 on Thursday. Ava Ghoreishi scored the winning goal, and goalkeeper Taylor Prigge earned her second shutout of the season. The Rebels outshot the Cougars 16-1 and held them to a single shot on goal.
Under first-year head coach Todd Shulenberger, Ole Miss is beginning a new chapter. The former Washington State coach secured a 3-0 start, the best in program history for a new head coach, according to school officials. Shulenberger previously led the Cougars to five NCAA Tournament appearances and a College Cup in 2019.
UAB enters Sunday’s game with a 1-1-1 record. The Blazers opened their season with a 4-2 win over Georgia State, then lost to Mississippi State 2-1 before tying Western Kentucky 1-1. Led by coach Erica Demers, UAB has scored six goals on 36 shots, allowing five goals on 27 shots.
Ole Miss will look to continue its strong start. The team features several key players, including goalkeeper Taylor Prigge, who has played all three matches and holds a 0.33 goals-against average. Forward Isabella Pontieri, on the Hermann Trophy watch list, leads the team with nine shots and four on goal.
The Rebels also boast a roster of 30 players, including transfers from Washington State and Appalachian State, and newcomers from 16 states and England. The team’s season continues with upcoming home matches against Memphis and ULM, as well as conference games against South Alabama and Alabama.
