OXFORD, Miss. — The Ole Miss football team has entered the third week of fall camp, preparing for its season opener against Louisville. The Rebels are focusing on refining their execution and developing both sides of the ball as the game approaches, according to the team’s social media updates and coaching staff comments.
The team recently held its first scrimmage of fall camp at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. Defensive coordinator Bryan Brown said the scrimmage allowed players to compete in a game-like environment and evaluate their communication and playmaking abilities without coaching on the field. Brown emphasized the importance of players demonstrating leadership and making plays independently.
Brown also discussed the pass rush, noting that the Rebels are spreading responsibility across the defensive line rather than relying on a single player. He highlighted the contributions of Suntarine Perkins, Kam Franklin, Blake Purchase and Jonathan Maldonado, who have stepped up during camp to bolster the pass rush.
Linebacker Keaton Thomas has made an early impact, according to Brown. The coach praised Thomas’s preparation, competitiveness and communication on the field, describing him as eager to prove himself in the league.
Brown said the team is working to establish a defensive identity rooted in physicality, speed and smart play. The goal is to limit explosive plays, play fast and maintain discipline throughout the season.
