Ole Miss Coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin to Lead Bahamian National Women’s Basketball Team
Yolett McPhee-McCuin, head coach of Ole Miss women’s basketball, has been appointed as the senior women’s head coach for the Bahamas national team, the university announced Wednesday.
McPhee-McCuin expressed enthusiasm for returning to her home country to lead its national team. “It is an honor to return back to my duties with the senior women’s national team as head coach,” she said. “I think this is the perfect time to revitalize women’s basketball in the Bahamas and start our journey to 2028 Olympics. I am asking all that are able, to support our women’s programs. There is no doubt in my mind that we too can represent the 242 in an outstanding way on the national scene.”
The Bahamian team will compete in the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup Centrobasket Qualifier, scheduled for July 12-18 at the Polideportivo Alexis Argüello in Managua, Nicaragua. The event features eight teams from the Central American and Caribbean Basketball Confederation, including Bahamas, Guyana, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, and the host nation Nicaragua.
Top three teams from the qualifier will earn spots in the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup 2027, joining host nation El Salvador, which has already qualified automatically. McPhee-McCuin previously served as head coach for the Bahamas from 2014 to 2017, leading the team to victory in the 2015 Caribbean Basketball Championship.
She also served as an assistant coach for the Bahamian men’s senior national team during World Cup qualifiers, becoming the first woman to coach with the men’s team, according to the university.
Ole Miss fans are encouraged to purchase season tickets for the 2026-27 women’s basketball season, as the team continues its upward trajectory and has made the NCAA tournament five consecutive years.
