Ole Miss Alum Jacob Gonzalez Called Up by Chicago White Sox

CHICAGO — The Chicago White Sox announced Saturday that they are calling up Jacob Gonzalez, a first-round pick in the 2023 MLB Draft and a 2022 national champion with Ole Miss. Gonzalez will join the team in Chicago prior to their game against the Detroit Tigers.

Gonzalez, a California native, becomes the 58th Rebel in program history to reach the major leagues and the first to debut in 2026. He has been one of the hottest hitters in the minors this month, batting .344 with 11 home runs, 36 RBIs, and 21 runs scored in May. Over 52 games with the Charlotte Knights, he’s hitting .317 with 19 home runs, 62 RBIs, and a 1.087 OPS.

During his three seasons at Ole Miss, Gonzalez posted a career batting average of .319, with 40 home runs, 158 RBIs, and 186 runs scored in 186 games. He ranks among the top 10 in program history in several categories, including home runs, total bases, and runs scored. In 2021, he scored 73 runs, the second-most in a single season for Ole Miss.

The left-handed hitter earned numerous accolades, including D1Baseball Freshman of the Year, Second Team All-American, and First Team Freshman All-American in 2021. He also played for the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team in 2021 and 2022. Gonzalez was selected eighth overall in Ole Miss history and 15th overall in the 2023 MLB Draft by the White Sox.

He was named to the All-SEC and ABCA All-South Region teams in 2021, 2022, and 2023. Gonzalez’s impressive minor league performance and collegiate achievements have made him a promising addition to the White Sox roster.
