22 Former Southern Miss Baseball Players Competing Professionally This Summer
Hattiesburg, Miss. — Twenty-two former Southern Miss Golden Eagles are playing professional baseball this summer across affiliated teams within Major League Baseball’s system, according to university athletic department reports.
Among them, Chuckie Robinson was recalled Thursday by the Los Angeles Dodgers and is expected to start against the Chicago White Sox in Chicago. Robinson previously played in the majors for the Cincinnati Reds in 2022, Chicago White Sox in 2024, and the Dodgers last year.
Five other Golden Eagles are currently in Triple-A: Dustin Dickerson with Omaha (Kansas City), Matthew Etzel with Jacksonville (Miami), Nick Sandlin with Toledo (Detroit), Reed Trimble with Norfolk (Baltimore), and Matt Wallner with St. Paul (Minnesota).
The number of professional players from Southern Miss is expected to grow later this summer with the MLB First-Year Player Draft scheduled for July 11-12 in Philadelphia, Pa., as part of the league’s All-Star festivities. The draft will add new players to the ranks of Golden Eagles currently in the minors or prospects.
The list of current professional Golden Eagles includes their current team, level, MLB organization, and draft details, with some players listed as undrafted free agents. The full list is maintained by the university and highlights the ongoing success of its baseball program in developing professional talent.
