Northwest Mississippi Golf Opens Season Strong at Pearl River Invitational
The Northwest Mississippi Community College golf team wrapped up its first tournament of the spring season at Diamondhead Country Club in Diamondhead on Monday and Tuesday, finishing near the middle of the pack among 12 teams. The Rangers posted a team score of 62-over par, just eight strokes shy of fifth place.
Freshman Cole Elander led the team individually, finishing ninth overall with a six-over-par score. Elander recorded his first top-10 finish, with a round capped by a birdie on hole three and a double eagle on hole 17 during the first day. He added three birdies on the second day and was just five strokes behind third place.
All team members either improved their scores or matched their first-day totals on the second day. Fadi Burnet, a transfer from France, made the biggest jump, reducing his score from 15-over to nine-over on day two. Burnet finished tied for 50th at 24-over. Teammates Braden Beverage and Caesar Ingendorf also competed, with Beverage rebounding from a rough first round to shoot a 7-over second round. Ingendorf struggled on the back nine but birdied one hole during his round.
Freshman Atharv Sharma maintained his position, finishing 23rd with a score of seven-over. He recorded a birdie on hole seven on day one and stayed consistent on day two. Logan Drumwright also competed individually, finishing 57th at 30-over.
The team is ranked No. 34 in the NJCAA Division II polls and will compete next at the Chris Clark Invitational at Dancing Rabbit Golf Club in Choctaw on March 2-3. For updates, fans can follow the Ranger social media accounts or visit nwccrangers.com.
