No. 4 Emory Tops Belhaven Men’s Soccer 5-3

ATLANTA — Belhaven scored three goals in the first 30 minutes but was unable to hold the lead, falling to No. 4 Emory 5-3 at the Woodruff P.E. Center on Saturday night.

Wyatt Dupre put the Blazers ahead just 92 seconds into the match and scored again in the 22nd minute for his first career two-goal game. Belhaven nearly added another goal shortly after, but Emory goalkeeper Geoffrey Halpern saved two shots from Courtland Williams.

Ivan Quiñones made it 3-0 for Belhaven with his first goal of the season at the 29:15 mark. Emory responded with goals from Jeremiah Cateau in the 32nd minute and Josh Ali in the 40th to cut the deficit to 3-2 at halftime. Charlton McMorris made two key saves in the final minute of the half to keep the Blazers ahead.

The Eagles tied the game at 50:40 when Logan Steren scored off an assist from Emre Evran. Belhaven was reduced to 10 players after a red card in the 55th minute but managed to stay level for more than 30 minutes. Graham Harris took both of Belhaven’s second-half shots, and the team earned consecutive corner kicks in the 81st minute while seeking a go-ahead goal.

Emory scored the winning goal in the 87th minute when Jack Yough found the net off assists from Josh Ali and Landon Redding. Ewen Robertson sealed the victory with a goal in the final 72 seconds.

Dupre led Belhaven with two goals on two shots, while Quiñones added a goal on two attempts. Williams placed both of his shots on goal. The Blazers will next face Oglethorpe in Atlanta with kickoff scheduled for 3:30 p.m. CT.
