No. 25 Ole Miss Baseball Falls to Tennessee in Series Finale

Knoxville, Tenn. — No. 25 Ole Miss Baseball (29-12, 10-8 SEC) lost the series finale to Tennessee (26-14, 8-10 SEC) 13-5 on Sunday afternoon. Despite the loss, the Rebels won the series, marking their third consecutive series victory and their 10th win in 12 games.

Tristan Bissetta led Ole Miss at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three RBIs, two runs scored, and his fourth home run of the week. Judd Utermark and Topher Jones each finished 2-for-4 with one run scored. The Rebels scored early, with Bissetta driving in Jones to give Ole Miss a 1-0 lead.

However, Tennessee responded with six home runs, scoring all 13 runs through long balls. The Volunteers hit two homers in the third inning and another in the fourth to take a 7-1 lead. Ole Miss attempted a comeback, with Will Furniss driving in two runs in the fifth and Bissetta hitting a two-run homer in the seventh, pulling the Rebels within two.

But Tennessee pulled away in the late innings, hitting three more home runs over the seventh and eighth frames to secure the victory. The Volunteers finished with 14 hits, while Ole Miss had 10.

The Rebels will return home to host Murray State on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Swayze Field. Ole Miss remains in second place in the SEC West standings and looks to rebound in upcoming matchups, according to team officials.
