Mississippi State beats Ole Miss 7-3 to win Governor’s Cup at Trustmark Park

PEARL, Miss. — Mississippi State defeated Ole Miss 7-3 Tuesday night at Trustmark Park to claim the Governor’s Cup. The Bulldogs, ranked No. 10, used a four-run first inning to take control early and maintained their lead throughout the game, improving to 35-10 this season.

State’s offense was led by Kevin Milewski, who went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Jacob Parker added two hits and two RBIs, while Bryce Chance and Ace Reese contributed key hits and RBIs. The Bulldogs scored four runs in the first inning and added insurance runs in the later innings to secure the win.

Starting pitcher Maddox Miller earned the win in relief, improving to 4-2 after 1 1/3 scoreless innings. Brendan Sweeney started and pitched three scoreless innings. Ole Miss, now 31-15, struggled offensively, managing only five hits and leaving 10 runners on base. Owen Kelly took the loss after allowing five runs in 1 2/3 innings.

Ole Miss scored three runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by doubles from Collin Reuter and a single from Dom Decker. However, Mississippi State responded with a run in the bottom of the inning and added two more in the eighth, sealing the victory. Dane Burns closed the game with two perfect innings for his first save.
