No. 17 Ole Miss Baseball Loses Governor’s Cup to No. 10 Mississippi State

Ole Miss, ranked No. 17, lost to No. 10 Mississippi State 7-3 in the Governor’s Cup on Tuesday night in Pearl, Mississippi. The Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead, scoring four runs in the first inning and adding another in the second.

Mississippi State pitcher Maddox Miller earned the win, while Ole Miss starter Owen Kelly took the loss. Dom Decker led the Rebels at the plate with two hits and an RBI. Collin Reuter also drove in two runs for Ole Miss.

The Bulldogs scored five runs in the first two innings and extended their lead with runs in the sixth and eighth. Ole Miss managed to rally in the sixth, with Reuter doubling in two runners and Decker driving in another, cutting the deficit to 5-3. However, Mississippi State responded with runs on a sacrifice fly and bunt in the subsequent innings.

The Rebels had limited scoring opportunities after the sixth inning, with their final two baserunners coming via a walk and an error. Ole Miss will next face Arkansas in a three-game series starting Friday in Fayetteville.

The game was part of Ole Miss’s ongoing season, with the team now holding a 31-15 record. Mississippi State improved to 35-10 with the win.
