Mississippi College’s Fryar, West Alabama’s De Block, Lee’s Pinzon Earn GSC Softball Weekly Honors
Mississippi College’s Ellie Fryar, West Alabama’s Eleanor De Block and Lee’s Madison Pinzon have been named the Gulf South Conference Softball Players of the Week for the week of April 20-26, the conference announced Monday.
Fryar, a junior infielder, hit .615 (6-for-13) with a slugging percentage of 1.308. She helped lead the Choctaws to a series sweep over rival Delta State. Fryar scored six runs, drove in three RBIs, hit three home runs and stole two bases, according to the GSC.
De Block, a senior pitcher for West Alabama, recorded three complete-game wins, improving her record to 21-8 this season. She struck out 12 batters over 21 innings, posting a 0.33 ERA and allowing just one run on 10 hits. De Block also threw back-to-back shutouts against UAH, breaking her own school record with her 10th shutout of the season, the conference said.
Pinzon, a freshman third baseman at Lee, hit .400 (4-for-10) with a slugging percentage of 1.600, including four home runs. She helped the Lady Flames win two of three games against Trevecca Nazarene. Pinzon drove in eight RBIs, scored four runs and drew two walks. Her series included a two-run home run in the opener and a grand slam in the finale, the GSC noted.
Other nominees for the weekly awards included Alexa Douthitt (UAH), Kennedy Sevcik (AUM), Hayden Gardner (Lee), Addy Grace Summers (Trevecca), Courtney Marler (Union), Ann Marie Stanbridge (West Alabama), and Hannah Harper (West Florida) for Player of the Week. Nominations for Pitcher of the Week included Reese Cauley (AUM), Emily Schooler (Christian Brothers), Camryn Bailey (Mississippi College), Mya Young (Montevallo), Riley Vaughn (Union), and Haley Guffey (West Florida).
The conference’s weekly honors for softball this season began with Hannah Harper (West Florida) as Player of the Week on Feb. 3 and Eleanor De Block (West Alabama) as Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 3. The latest winners reflect the ongoing performances during the spring season.
