Mississippi College’s Alex Johnson Named NCBWA South Region Player of the Week
CLINTON, Miss. — Mississippi College’s Alex Johnson has been named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association South Region Player of the Week. The senior helped the Choctaws post a 3-1 record last week.
Johnson batted .400 (6-for-15) with five runs scored, eight RBIs and three home runs over four games. He also posted a .471 on-base percentage and a 1.000 slugging percentage during that span, according to the school.
The Albertville, Alabama, native delivered his top performance in a win over Arkansas-Monticello, going 4-for-5 with two home runs and five RBIs. He added a three-run homer in Mississippi College’s 9-3 victory over Auburn Montgomery, helping the team clinch the series.
Johnson is the first Choctaw to earn a weekly award from the NCBWA since JT Vance on April 29, 2025, the school said. Mississippi College returns to action on March 13, hosting Lee in a three-game series. The first pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
