Mississippi College Softball Secures GSC Tournament Berth After Weekend Losses to West Florida

CLINTON, Miss. — Mississippi College softball concluded its 2026 home schedule with a three-game series against West Florida at the MC Softball Complex. The Choctaws lost all three games, dropping the series 0-3.

Mississippi College fell in Friday’s opener, then lost both games of Saturday’s doubleheader, bringing their overall record to 25-19-1 and conference mark to 15-12. The team has now lost four straight games.

Despite the losses, the Choctaws secured a spot in the Gulf South Conference Tournament on Saturday. With Union losing a game, Mississippi College maintained a six-game lead in the standings with six games remaining and held the tiebreaker over the other contenders.

In Saturday’s first game, MC fought offensively but was unable to overcome a costly big inning by West Florida, falling 7-3. The Choctaws collected 11 hits and scored two late runs in the seventh inning, highlighted by RBI singles from Ellie Fryar and Morgan Lavergne.

West Florida completed the sweep with a 4-1 victory in the final game, scoring three runs in the opening inning and limiting MC’s scoring opportunities throughout. Mississippi College managed only one run despite putting runners on base frequently.

Friday’s opener saw the Choctaws score multiple runs in the middle innings but ultimately fell 11-5. The weekend also featured a memorable moment for senior pitcher Cam Bailey, who recorded the final strikeout of her career at the MC Softball Complex.

Mississippi College finishes its home schedule with a 12-8 record in Clinton. The team will next travel to Cleveland, Miss., for a three-game series against Delta State to close out the regular season.
