Mississippi Christian’s Jake McMillan Named USTFCCCA South Region Men’s Field Athlete of the Year
CLINTON, Miss. — Mississippi Christian University freshman Jake McMillan has been named USTFCCCA South Region Men’s Field Athlete of the Year, adding to his list of season accomplishments. The Madison, Mississippi, native made a significant impact in his debut season, rewriting school and Gulf South Conference records in the decathlon.
McMillan won the Gulf South Conference decathlon title in April with a total of 6,974 points, a record for both the school and conference. His performance earned him Gulf South Conference Field Athlete of the Year honors and a spot at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
At nationals in Emporia, Kansas, McMillan finished 12th in the decathlon with 6,775 points, earning Second Team All-America honors. He recorded standout performances in multiple events, including a runner-up finish in the high jump at 1.96 meters and a time of 14.66 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles. He also cleared 4.50 meters in the pole vault and scored well in the long jump, shot put, discus, javelin, 400 meters and 1,500 meters.
The USTFCCCA award recognizes the top performer in the South Region based on outdoor season accomplishments. McMillan’s conference title, record-setting decathlon, and All-America finish distinguished him as the region’s top athlete. His success highlights a historic year for Mississippi Christian track and field, which saw multiple athletes qualify for the NCAA Division II Championships and earn national recognition.
