Millsaps Tennis Teams Earn 2026 ITA Academic Honors
GILBERT, Ariz. — Six student-athletes from Millsaps College’s tennis programs received 2026 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athlete honors, the ITA announced July 15.
The women’s team was also recognized for the seventh consecutive year as an ITA All-Academic Team. The team posted a 3.487 GPA during the 2025-26 academic year, according to the ITA.
Malakie Smith, a sophomore, earned her second consecutive ITA Academic Award with a 4.0 GPA. Riley McClain, also a sophomore, achieved a 3.916 GPA and received the award for the second year in a row. Senior Alexis Oliver finished with a 3.525 GPA, marking her second time earning the honor and helping the team maintain its academic standards.
On the men’s side, Sebastian Gonzalez, a sophomore, posted a perfect 4.0 GPA for the year, earning back-to-back awards. Freshman Jon Nguyen was also recognized with a 3.78 GPA, while Bradley Schiaffino, a first-year student, finished with a 3.541 GPA.
To qualify as an ITA Scholar-Athlete, student-athletes must have at least a 3.5 GPA and be listed on the institutional eligibility form. For team recognition as an ITA All-Academic Team, programs must have a team GPA of 3.2 or higher, and all varsity letter winners must be included in the GPA calculation.
