Millsaps Tennis Teams Earn 2026 ITA Academic Honors

GILBERT, Ariz. — Six student-athletes from Millsaps College’s tennis programs were named 2026 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athletes, the ITA announced Wednesday, July 15. The women’s tennis team also earned recognition as an ITA All-Academic Team for the seventh consecutive season.

The women’s team posted a 3.487 team GPA during the 2025-26 academic year. Sophomore Malakie Smith achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA and earned her second consecutive ITA Academic Award. Teammate Riley McClain, with a 3.916 GPA, also received the honor for the second year in a row. Senior Alexis Oliver, with a 3.525 GPA, earned her second ITA Academic Award, completing her collegiate career strong academically.

On the men’s side, sophomore Sebastian Gonzalez recorded a 4.0 GPA across fall and spring semesters, earning the award for the second straight year. Freshman Jon Nguyen, with a 3.78 GPA, was named an ITA Scholar-Athlete in his first year. Fellow freshman Bradley Schiaffino posted a 3.541 GPA, contributing to the team’s academic success.

To qualify as an ITA Scholar-Athlete, players must have at least a 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale and be listed on the institutional eligibility form. Teams must maintain a team GPA of 3.2 or higher and include all varsity letter winners in their cumulative GPA to earn All-Academic Team honors.
