Millsaps Duo Recognized on 2025-26 CSC Academic All-District Tennis Teams
GREENWOOD, Miss. — The College Sports Communicators announced the 2025-26 CSC Academic All-District® men’s and women’s tennis teams Tuesday, featuring two players from Millsaps College. Sophomore Sebastian Gonzalez was named to the men’s team, and sophomore Malakie Smith made the women’s list.
To qualify for the honor, student-athletes must maintain at least a 3.50 GPA and participate in at least 75% of their team’s matches, according to CSC. Gonzalez, a Government major with minors in Philosophy, Law and Society, boasts a perfect 4.0 GPA and has earned multiple academic honors. He is a three-time member of Millsaps’ Club 40, which recognizes students with a 4.0 GPA each semester. Gonzalez also received the 2025 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athlete Award and has been named to the President’s List twice.
On the court, Gonzalez was named the Southern Athletic Association Men’s Tennis Doubles Athlete of the Week on March 3 after winning a match against Belhaven University. He also secured victories over MUW and Oglethorpe University during the season. Outside tennis, he is involved in Civil Discourse in the Government Department and served as an NDS Court Watch volunteer. Gonzalez plans to attend law school after graduation.
Smith, majoring in Studio Art with a minor in Business, maintains a 3.91 GPA. She has been named to Millsaps’ Club 40 twice and the President’s List twice. She also received the 2025 ITA Scholar-Athlete Award and was named to the SAA Academic Honor Roll. During the current season, Smith recorded five singles wins and six doubles victories, including a dominant win against Huntingdon College and multiple non-conference victories.
Smith’s success on the court complements her academic achievements, which include recognition on the Dean’s List and the SAA Academic Honor Roll. Her season highlights include a 6–2, 6–1 win over Oglethorpe University in singles play. Both athletes exemplify Millsaps College’s commitment to balancing academic excellence and athletic performance.
