Millsaps Duo Named to 2025-26 CSC Academic All-District Tennis Teams
GREENWOOD, Ind. — Millsaps College freshmen Sebastian Gonzalez and Malakie Smith were named to the College Sports Communicators’ 2025-26 CSC Academic All-District® Men’s and Women’s Tennis Teams, announced Tuesday.
Gonzalez, a sophomore from San Antonio, Texas, earned recognition for his performance both on and off the court. The Government major with minors in Philosophy, Law, and Society holds a 4.0 GPA and has been a three-time member of Millsaps’ Club 40, awarded to students with a perfect semester GPA. He also made the President’s List twice and received the 2025 ITA Scholar-Athlete Award.
On the tennis court, Gonzalez was named Southern Athletic Association Men’s Tennis Doubles Athlete of the Week on March 3 after a victory against Belhaven University. He also teamed with Brennan Pierce to defeat MUW. Gonzalez plans to attend law school after graduation and is involved in campus organizations such as Civil Discourse in the Government Department and Phi Eta Sigma.
Smith, a Studio Art major with a minor in Business from Mobile, Alabama, boasts a 3.91 GPA. She has been recognized twice on the Dean’s List and twice on the President’s List, as well as earning a spot on the SAA Academic Honor Roll and the ITA Scholar-Athlete Award.
During the 2025-26 season, Smith recorded five singles wins and six doubles victories. Her notable matches include a 6-1, 6-1 win over Huntingdon College and consecutive singles wins against Belhaven, MUW, and the University of the Ozarks. She also secured a conference win against Oglethorpe University.
Both athletes exemplify the balance of academics and athletics at Millsaps College, a private liberal arts institution founded in 1890 in Jackson, Mississippi. The college has been recognized for its value and academic excellence by numerous national rankings and publications.
