Curtis Thompson Wins Fourth Consecutive USATF Javelin Title

NEW YORK — Curtis Thompson, a former Georgia Bulldog, won his fourth consecutive USATF men’s javelin championship Saturday at Icahn Stadium. The victory marked his sixth career national title, according to USATF.

Thompson entered the final round trailing Georgia’s Jordan Davis, who threw a season-best 82.36 meters (270 feet, 3 inches). Davis’s final throw moved into the lead, prompting Thompson to respond with his own last attempt.

Thompson’s final throw soared 87.59 meters (287 feet, 4 inches), a season best and just 17 centimeters shy of his personal record. His performance secured him the title, making him the fifth American man to win six or more USATF javelin championships and the fourth to win four straight, joining legends Breaux Greer, Boyd Brown, and George Bronder.

Hailing from Florence, New Jersey, Thompson now holds the second-longest throw in the world this year and remains in position to compete at the World Athletics Ultimate Championships in Budapest in September, USATF reported.
