Millsaps Softball Sweeps Centre in Conference Opening Series

The Millsaps College softball team opened conference play with a three-game sweep of Centre College over the weekend in Jackson, Mississippi. The Majors improved to 17-5 overall and 3-0 in the Southern Athletic Association.

In Game 1, Millsaps routed Centre 13-0 in five innings. Sophomore Hailey Marange pitched four scoreless innings, earning the win. Junior Julie Amacher added a scoreless inning of relief. The Majors tallied 12 RBIs and 10 hits, with key contributions from Brynn Arena, Julia Strain, Liza Gregg, and Kadence Cannon. The team scored five runs in the second inning, highlighted by a three-run home run from Strain, and finished with a 13-run mercy rule in the fourth inning.

Game 2 saw Millsaps secure a 4-0 victory behind a complete-game shutout from Vasquez, who struck out three and allowed only one walk. The offense capitalized on three Centre errors and recorded three hits in the fourth inning, scoring all four runs. Palumbo and Arena contributed key hits and RBIs, while Vasquez’s pitching performance kept the Colonels off the board.

In the series finale Sunday, Millsaps completed the sweep with a 3-1 victory. Senior Ella Sears led offensively with a three-run homer in the seventh inning, sealing the win. Junior Peterson pitched the final two innings, allowing one run on one hit. Amacher started and pitched five scoreless innings, holding Centre to one hit and three strikeouts.
