Southern Miss Men’s Golf Finishes Day One at Mossy Oak Collegiate in 14th

The Southern Miss men’s golf team finished the first day of the Mossy Oak Collegiate with a two-round total of 593 strokes, placing 14th among 19 teams, according to the university’s athletics department.

Freshman Jake Moffitt led the Golden Eagles with a strong performance, shooting a 1-under 71 in the morning and an even-par 72 in the afternoon. His efforts placed him tied for 13th individually.

Benjamin Fernandez shot a combined 4-over 148, including an eagle on a 523-yard par 5 in the afternoon, and is tied for 51st. Walker Wise finished tied for 58th after rounds of 73 and 76. Other team members, Supakorn Amornchaichan and Matthew Javier, sit in 89th and 97th places, respectively.

Southern Miss opened with an 11-over 299 and improved slightly in the second round with a 6-over 294. The team trails the leader, Ole Miss, by 17 strokes. Ole Miss shot a 17-under total, holding a nine-shot lead over Mississippi State.
