Louisiana-Monroe scores five in eighth to beat Mississippi Valley State 10-5
Mississippi Valley State University’s baseball team suffered a 10-5 defeat to Louisiana-Monroe on Tuesday at Lou St. Amani Field in Monroe, Louisiana. The Diamond Devils led 5-4 entering the bottom of the eighth before the Warhawks scored five runs to pull away, according to the game summary.
The Warhawks improved to 25-24 overall and 10-14 in Sun Belt Conference play. Mississippi Valley State fell to 11-32 overall and 7-17 in Southwestern Athletic Conference action. Louisiana-Monroe leads the all-time series 11-0 since 2001, with no recent wins for the Diamond Devils.
Several players stood out for Mississippi Valley State. Stephen Landaz went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two walks. Chris Soeder reached safely in all four of his plate appearances, singling once, being hit twice, and scoring twice. Gabe Huelsing went 3-for-5 with an RBI, marking his third three-hit game of the season. Ethan Fuller and Matthew Cuzco pitched a scoreless inning each, with Fuller recording a strikeout.
Diamond Devil Tanner Aoki extended his on-base streak to 19 games with a third-inning single.
