Jones College Tennis Receives 2026 NJCAA Sport Opportunity Grant

Jones College’s tennis program in Mississippi has been awarded a 2026 NJCAA Sport Opportunity Grant, according to the NJCAA Foundation. The grant is one of 15 awarded nationwide and is valued at $2,000.

The funds will support the college’s tennis teams under the leadership of 10th-year head coach Brooks Buffington. The program has seen notable success, including three straight undefeated seasons by the women’s team and its first-ever NJCAA Division II National Title on May 7 in Sumter, South Carolina. The men’s team finished with a 16-2 record, won its fifth consecutive MACCC Championship in April, and placed fourth at the national tournament out of 18 teams.

Jones College athletic director Chris Robinson expressed gratitude for the grant, saying it will help expand the program’s opportunities. “We appreciate the NJCAA for allowing us to receive the grant for tennis and will put the money to good use,” Robinson said. “This opens up so many avenues for our tennis program to take our program even further than it has already gone.”

Andrew Givens, executive director of the NJCAA Foundation, highlighted the importance of such funding. “The NJCAA Foundation is excited to further support the growth of NJCAA member colleges and the sport programs they offer through the NJCAA Sport Opportunity Grant,” Givens stated. “The ability to provide this funding is a testament to the importance and growth of two-year collegiate athletics. We look forward to the impact this initiative will have as NJCAA member colleges continue to create opportunities for student-athletes across the country.”
