Jones College Men’s Tennis Advances to Sixth Consecutive Regional Final

ELLISVILLE — Jones College men’s tennis team earned its sixth straight regional final appearance after defeating East Central 5-0 in the quarterfinals and Northwest 5-1 in the semifinals, according to team sources.

In the quarterfinals, the Bobcats swept all three doubles matches, with scores of 8-5, 8-4, and 8-2 at Nos. 1, 2, and 3 doubles. Ryan Roth secured a singles point at No. 6 with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Thomas Sumrall, while Ridge Jones clinched the match at No. 4 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 victory.

On Friday morning, Jones and partner Thomas Garrett won 8-1 at No. 1 doubles, and Roth paired with Jones for an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles. Felipe Morales and Reese Touchet also contributed, winning 8-6 at No. 2 doubles after a 5-5 tie, helping the Bobcats start with a 3-0 lead in doubles play.

In singles, Roth had to retire at No. 6 to give Northwest its lone point. Felipe Morales defeated Miguel Robayna 6-0, 6-3 at No. 3 singles, making the team’s lead 4-1. Thomas Garrett then sealed the victory with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Luca Morris.

The Bobcats will face the winner of the Gulf Coast/Copiah-Lincoln match in the regional final scheduled for Saturday at 10 a.m., according to team officials.
