Jackson State’s Pitts Jr. Qualifies for NCAA East Preliminaries in 200 Meters

Jackson State University sprinter Sedgwrick Pitts Jr. has qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships’ first round, scheduled for May 27-30 in Lexington, Kentucky.

The senior from Tyler, Texas, earned his spot in the 200-meter dash with a time of 20.63 seconds at the Georgia Tech Invitational in April, finishing second in the event. Pitts has been named SWAC Track Athlete of the Week four times this season and placed fourth in the 200-meter dash at the SWAC Championships.

He was a key contributor to Jackson State’s men’s championship team this season. The first round of the 200-meter dash begins at 8:45 p.m. EST on May 27. To qualify for the NCAA East Preliminaries, student-athletes must have finished the season ranked within the top 48 in their individual events or as part of the top 24 relay teams on their regional qualifying list.

The top 12 finishers in each event at the East and West Preliminaries will advance to the NCAA Championships. The West Preliminaries will be held at Texas A&M University in Bryan-College Station, Texas.
