Jackson State Women’s Tennis Advances to SWAC Championship
NEW ORLEANS — The Jackson State women’s tennis team is headed to the SWAC Championship after a 4-1 win over Florida A&M on Saturday afternoon, according to the university.
Helen Hernandez delivered the decisive victory in a three-set match to secure the Tigers’ spot in the championship for the second consecutive year. Hernandez also paired with Victoria Linkovski to win doubles play, 6-1.
Jackson State also earned singles wins from senior Isabella Benavides, who defeated Sydney Brantley 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4, and Victoria Linkovski, the SWAC Newcomer of the Year, who beat Reagan Harris 6-3, 6-4. Benavides was a First Team All-SWAC selection.
In doubles action, Tiara Alvarez and Daniela Tovar secured the point with a 6-4 victory over Gabrielle Pierce and Harris at No. 3.
The Tigers will face No. 3 seed Alabama State in a rematch of the 2024 SWAC Championship on Sunday at 10 a.m., according to the university.
