Inside-the-Park Home Run Propels Delta State Past Trevecca Nazarene in GSC Tournament
OXFORD, Ala. — Delta State University’s baseball team edged Trevecca Nazarene 9-6 Monday morning at Choccolocco Park, advancing in the Gulf South Conference Tournament.
The Statesmen (30-20) fell behind early after Trevecca Nazarene scored five runs in the third inning. Delta State responded immediately, with a sacrifice fly from Bo Rock in the second inning and a rally in the fourth that tied the game at 5-5.
Levi Lang sparked the fourth inning with a double, and Cade Greer and Austin Batts delivered key hits. Rock then hit an inside-the-park home run, driving in three runs and tying the game. Delta State continued its rally with a go-ahead RBI double from Greer in the fifth inning. The Statesmen added two more runs in the sixth on a single from Tucker Jones and scored an insurance run in the seventh to secure a 9-6 lead.
On the mound, Ryan Herbison earned the win in relief, pitching 5.1 innings and allowing two runs while striking out three. Dawson Muenzenmay closed the game, pitching the final four outs for his sixth save of the season.
At the plate, Cade Greer went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Bo Rock led all players with four RBIs. Tucker Jones contributed two RBIs as part of the nine-hit effort by Delta State.
The team will play later today against the loser of the Lee-West Florida game at approximately 6 p.m. at Choccolocco Park.
