Vancleave native Brooklyn Rhodes named SLIAC softball pitcher of the week
Columbus, Miss. — Brooklyn Rhodes, a sophomore pitcher for Mississippi Valley State University, has been named the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference softball Pitcher of the Week, the league announced.
Rhodes, a Vancleave, Mississippi, native, secured her sixth win of the season last Saturday. She pitched a complete game in a 3-2 victory over Spalding University in a matchup of league contenders. In her seven innings, Rhodes allowed five hits, two earned runs, struck out four and walked one, according to the league.
The win helped Mississippi Valley State secure the No. 4 seed for the upcoming SLIAC tournament, which starts Tuesday. The Owls will face No. 5 seed Westminster College at 1 p.m. at The W.
Rhodes plays both pitcher and first baseman for the Owls and is 5-foot-4. She bats and throws right-handed, the league said.
