Hinds Track and Field Excels at Jim Mize Invitational

Ruston, La. — The Hinds Community College track and field teams delivered a strong showing at the Jim Mize Invitational this past weekend, highlighted by several top finishes. On the women’s side, Caneilia Hope led the way with an 11.27-second victory in the 100 meters.

Hope also placed second in the 200 meters with a time of 23.56 seconds. Jaycie Wallace and Alana McGowan finished ninth and 15th in the 100 meters, while Wallace added a 10th-place finish in the 200 meters. Kylie Norbert and Morgan Bradley finished fourth and sixth in the 200 meters, respectively.

Mikenzey Hodges-Woods continued her dominant season, winning the 100-meter hurdles in 13.80 seconds and placing second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:01.67. Seanna-gaye Leslie finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles. In the 400 meters, Morgan Bradley led Hinds with a fifth-place finish in 57.28 seconds, followed by Norbert and Shaniyah Walker in eighth and 10th.

On the men’s side, Matthew Sullivan highlighted the meet with a victory in the 110-meter hurdles, crossing the finish line in 13.49 seconds. In the 400-meter hurdles, Nathanael Abrahams and Da’Jarian Leonard finished third and fourth with times of 53.96 and 54.01 seconds. Shadane Smith led Hinds in the 400 meters, finishing ninth in 48.74 seconds, with Vernon Green III and Marquis Norwood also competing in the event.

In middle-distance events, Christian Washington finished seventh in the 800 meters with a time of 2:02.41. In the field events, Anthony Cooley placed sixth in the long jump with a mark of 6.58 meters. Hinds will compete next at the LSU Alumni Gold meet in Baton Rouge on Saturday, April 25.
