Hinds Golf Clinches Spot in NJCAA Division II National Championship with Playoff Win
BRANDON, Miss. — The Hinds Community College men’s golf team secured a spot in the NJCAA Division II National Championship after winning a playoff against Meridian Community College at Castlewoods Country Club. The event was played in steady rain over 54 holes.
Hinds finished tied for second at 27-over par alongside Meridian, forcing a sudden-death playoff for the final qualifying position. The Eagles emerged victorious on the extra hole, earning their first-ever bid to the national tournament, according to a school spokesperson.
Individually, Hinds was represented by Stephen Faucheaux, who finished in a five-way tie for first place after rounds of 75, 69, and 73, finishing at +1 overall. Cole Baglione also played consistently, shooting 77, 76, and 72 to finish at +9. Christopher Cain fired a final-round 69 (−3) to finish at +9 overall, while Trevor Antley posted rounds of 77, 81, and 73 for +15. Jarrett Pettis rounded out the lineup with scores of 77, 76, and 74, finishing at +11.
Led by coach Chad Davis, the Eagles battled challenging weather conditions and demonstrated resilience in the playoff. Their composure and lineup depth were critical factors in clinching the program’s first national tournament appearance.
Hinds now prepares for the NJCAA Division II National Championship in Plymouth, Indiana, where they will compete against the top teams in the nation. The team aims to continue its impressive postseason run.
