Freed-Hardeman edges Blue Mountain 7-6 in nine-inning thriller

Henderson, Tennessee — Blue Mountain’s baseball team narrowly lost to Freed-Hardeman 7-6 in a nine-inning game Tuesday. The Lions took an early lead, scoring three runs in the first three innings, aided by a sacrifice bunt, a solo home run, and a wild pitch.

Freed-Hardeman added another run in the fourth to extend its advantage to 4-0. The Toppers began to rally in the fourth inning when Ross Polizzi drove in Yaidel Perez with an RBI double. Blue Mountain then took the lead in the fifth, highlighted by Jacob Bryant’s three-run home run that tied the game at 4-4.

The Lions responded immediately with a solo homer in the bottom half of the fifth to go ahead 5-4. The Toppers regained the lead in the sixth, as Jake Meilstrup homered to right field, scoring Gavin Foley and giving Blue Mountain a 6-5 edge. Freed-Hardeman tied the game again in the sixth before taking the lead for good in the eighth on a sacrifice fly.

Bryant led Blue Mountain with three RBIs, while Meilstrup added two RBIs and reached base four times. Cody Presley collected multiple hits, and Polizzi contributed an RBI double. On the mound, Judson Griffin started and allowed three runs in three innings. Caleb Hall pitched in relief, and Jesse Hancock was charged with the loss after surrendering the go-ahead run in the eighth. Chip Harris finished the game with a scoreless inning.

The Toppers will host Freed-Hardeman again Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the BMCU Sportsplex as they look to rebound from the loss.
