Four Mississippi State Athletes Honored by SEC for Community Service and Academic Excellence

STARKVILLE — Four Mississippi State University athletes have been recognized by the Southeastern Conference for their achievements in academics and community service. Izzy Pellot of women’s golf and Jacoby Jackson of football received the Brad Davis Community Service Award, the SEC announced.

The award honors male and female student-athletes for leadership and volunteer efforts. All 16 SEC schools select a male and female recipient, each earning a $7,500 postgraduate scholarship. The winners are also candidates for the league’s Brad Davis Community Service Leader of the Year, which will be announced in May with a $15,000 scholarship.

The award is named after Brad Davis, a former SEC associate commissioner who died of cancer in 2006. Davis served the conference from 1988 until his death and was known for his dedication to sports and community service.

In addition, Rickyla Fagan of women’s track and field and Petar Jovanovic of men’s tennis were chosen as Mississippi State’s nominees for the H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarships. Both finalists will receive $10,000 scholarships. The McWhorter awards, presented annually since 1986, honor top male and female student-athletes for academic success and athletic achievement.
