Forty-Five Coahoma Student-Athletes Earn MACCC Academic Honors for 2025-2026
COAHOMA — Forty-five student-athletes from Coahoma Community College have earned academic honors from the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference for the 2025-2026 academic year, the college announced Friday.
The honors recognize academic excellence across six Tiger athletic programs. Six student-athletes received Distinguished Academic All-State honors for achieving a GPA of 3.80 or higher, while 39 earned Academic All-State honors for GPAs between 3.25 and 3.79, according to the college.
Selina Reid, the college’s director of athletics, said, “Our student-athletes continue to demonstrate that excellence in competition begins with dedication in the classroom. Earning 45 conference academic honors reflects their commitment to academic success and the strong support system built by our coaches, faculty, and staff.”
Coahoma baseball led the department with 16 honorees, including five Distinguished Academic All-State selections. Head coach Austin Biggs emphasized the importance of maintaining high academic standards for student-athletes’ future opportunities.
“Excellence in the classroom is something we talk about and push in our program,” Biggs said. “Having 16 players earn conference academic honors is huge for us. Academic success makes four-year institutions much more affordable when players can combine academic scholarship funds with athletic aid.”
Biggs also noted ongoing progress on a new indoor training facility set to open by Sept. 1. The facility will feature hitting cages, a bullpen, and weight training equipment, serving both baseball and softball programs. “It will be a game-changer, especially in the Delta when the weather gets tricky,” he added. “It gives us a dedicated place to develop our student-athletes academically and athletically.”
The honorees include athletes from baseball, football, softball, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, and track and field, with specific awardees listed by sport. These recognitions reinforce Coahoma’s commitment to developing well-rounded leaders who excel both in competition and academics as the college prepares for the 2026-2027 athletic year.
Founded in 1949, Coahoma Community College is a public, historically Black college in Clarksdale, Mississippi. It offers associate degrees and certificates across various fields and is known for its nursing, health sciences, and transfer programs. The college also supports a vibrant student life, including athletics, student government, and cultural organizations.
