Delta State Falls 4-3 to No. 4 West Alabama in Women’s Tennis

Cleveland, Miss. — The Delta State University women’s tennis team lost a close 4-3 decision to West Alabama on Monday at Cleveland Country Club. The Tigers, ranked No. 4 nationally, secured the doubles point with wins at Nos. 1 and 2, giving them an early 1-0 lead.

West Alabama extended its lead in singles play with straight-set victories at Nos. 1, 2, and 3 to clinch the match. Delta State responded with three points of its own. Anastasiia Iakovlieva won at No. 4 singles in three sets, rallying for a 7-6, 1-6, 10-8 victory over 69th-ranked Jenaila Prulla.

Lena Kuehn added a win at No. 5, defeating Nanoka Kazama 6-2, 6-3, 11-9. Angie Moreno earned the final point for the Lady Statesmen via forfeit at No. 6. Despite the late push, the early deficit proved too much, and Delta State fell short with a final score of 4-3.

The Lady Statesmen will compete in the Gulf South Conference Championship Tournament starting Thursday, April 23, in Tuscaloosa.
