AUM softball beats Delta State 3-1 in series finale
AUBURN MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Auburn Montgomery beat Delta State 3-1 Friday in Gulf South Conference softball at the AUM Softball Complex.
The Lady Statesmen (12-32, 6-21 GSC) managed only four hits in the game. The Warhawks (37-7, 20-7 GSC) used timely hitting and a three-hit effort from Chloe Baynes to secure the victory.
AUM scored first in the opening inning when Olivia Watkins doubled to left field, driving in Baynes for a 1-0 lead. The Warhawks added a second run in the third after Rebecca Komers tripled to right center to score Baynes. Delta State responded in the fifth inning when Laney Daigrepont reached on an error, and Shelby Allen scored on a sacrifice bunt by Mary Teague, cutting the deficit to 2-1.
However, AUM responded immediately. Gabbi Barnowsky hit a sacrifice fly to left field, allowing Baynes to score her third run of the day and push the lead back to 3-1.
Offensively, Calli McConnell led Delta State with a 2-for-3 performance. Maeve Lavoy contributed the team’s only RBI and pitched all six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits with one strikeout. Lavoy also recorded the team’s fourth hit with a double.
Sydni Free pitched a complete game for AUM, allowing just one unearned run on four hits and striking out two across seven innings to earn the victory.
