Alex Johnson Named Gulf South Conference Player of the Week
CLINTON, Miss. — Albertville native Alex Johnson has been named Gulf South Conference Player of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Johnson batted .400 over four games, driving in eight RBIs and scoring five runs. He also hit three home runs, posted a .471 on-base percentage, and a 1.000 slugging percentage, according to the conference.
The senior infielder highlighted his week with a 4-for-5 performance that included two home runs and five RBIs against Arkansas-Monticello. He added a three-run homer in Mississippi College’s 9-3 conference victory at Auburn Montgomery.
Defensively, Johnson recorded 17 putouts and one assist without an error. He is the second Choctaw player to earn weekly honors this season, joining Will Langston, who was named conference freshman of the week on March 3. Johnson is also the first MC player to earn player of the week since JT Vance on April 29, 2025.
Johnson ranks 20th nationally with seven home runs, second in the conference, and is sixth in the league with seven hit-by-pitch instances. Mississippi College returns to action Tuesday, hosting Ouachita Baptist with first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m.
