Alcorn’s Grace Ambrose Named SWAC Offensive Player of the Week
Alcorn State soccer forward Grace Ambrose has been named the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Offensive Player of the Week for Aug. 18-24, the league announced Tuesday from Birmingham, Alabama.
The junior from Aba, Nigeria, started the season with two matches, leading Alcorn with three points. She scored one goal and added an assist.
In the season opener against McNeese, Ambrose assisted Larissa Josa Luma’s goal in the 69th minute, helping the Braves rally from a 2-1 deficit. She also scored the only goal for Alcorn in a Sunday match against Louisiana-Monroe, finding the net in the 86th minute to prevent a shutout.
Ambrose finished the week with three total shots, a .333 shots-on-goal percentage, and a 66.7% shots on goal rate, according to the league.
Texas Southern’s Juliette Gomez earned Defensive Player of the Week honors, while teammates Alessandra Bastidas and Jiselle Caffey received Goalkeeper of the Week and Newcomer of the Week awards, respectively.
Alcorn returns to action Thursday, traveling to Nicholls in Thibodaux, Louisiana, at 7 p.m. Fans can follow updates on Twitter at @BravesSports, on Instagram at @AlcornSports, and on YouTube via Braves Sports Network.
