Alcorn Soccer Opens 2026 Season at Home Against McNeese

Alcorn State soccer begins its 2026 season Thursday, hosting McNeese at Key City Park in Vicksburg, Mississippi. The match is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. CT, and admission is free, according to school officials.

Under the leadership of second-year head coach Ken Kabiru, the Braves are coming off a 2025 season in which they finished 5-8-4 overall and made it to the SWAC Tournament semifinals. They posted a 3-3-2 record in league play, with wins over Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Alabama State, and Southern.

Alcorn was predicted to finish fourth in the SWAC preseason poll. Key players returning include Larissa Joso Luma, who was named SWAC Newcomer of the Year and earned all-conference honors, as well as midfielders Annick Zouma and Ainara Aldeano.

McNeese enters the season after a 7-0 exhibition win over LSU-Eunice on August 6. Last season, the Cowgirls finished 4-12-4 overall and 3-5-2 in the Southland Conference. They also return leading scorer Rhiannon Maynes-Tourond, who netted six goals in 2025.

Coach Kabiru expressed excitement for the season opener, emphasizing the team’s preparation for live-game competition and the importance of focusing on their performance. He noted the team’s good chemistry and the readiness to respond to the challenge from McNeese.
