Video game “e-sports” to be new school activity in Mississippi

MHSAA, the governing body of sports and activities in Mississippi, will roll out an e-sports pilot program for 2018-2019 according to misshsaa.com.

E-sports, also known as electronic sports, is a form of multi-player competitive video games. It is estimated that 72% of today’s youth play some sort of video game.

E-sports are played by an estimated 500 million players worldwide on popular games like Overwatch and League of Legends.

Students will play for their school team against other teams over an internet connection. All the school needs to be eligible is a faculty advisor, access to internet and computers.
