North Pontotoc picks up convincing road win with dominating defense
North Pontotoc went on the road for a key district matchup against Ripley on Friday night.
The Vikings left with a convincing 30-7 win in their first 1-4A contest of the year as they held their opponent to just 137 total yards.
North Pontotoc scored on their first possession using a methodical drive that culminated in a TJ Polk to Tyler Hill touchdown pass. The drive took nearly 5 minutes off of the game clock.
On the ensuing Ripley drive, the Vikings created their first of four turnovers when Tate Ellis recovered a fumble at midfield. The North drive stalled in the red zone, but the Viking defense forced an immediate turnover on downs leading to a TJ Polk rushing touchdown.
Polk would add another rushing touchdown after North blocked a Ripley punt to takeover on their own 4 yard line.
Hunter Miles would recover another first half Ripley fumble and Gavin Dyer would connect on a 22 yard field goal as time expires to give the Vikings a 23-7 first half lead.
The second half was a defensive struggle for both teams with North Pontotoc holding Ripley scoreless and picking up a 4th quarter Hill touchdown to put the game away.
It was the 5th game this season North Pontotoc has held an opponent to a single score or less.
The win moves North Pontotoc to 5-2 (1-0). They are back on the road in district play against New Albany next week. More pictures and video on Facebook (pontotoc county sports) and Instagram (sportsmississippi)
