Mississippi State Hosts SEC Starkvegas Showdown This Weekend

STARKVILLE, Miss. — Mississippi State will host its first-ever SEC Starkvegas Showdown this weekend, featuring matches against Alabama, Auburn, and Vanderbilt. The fall tournament runs from September 18 through 20 at the MSU Tennis Facility.

The event kicks off Friday with Alabama facing Vanderbilt at 11 a.m. and Auburn taking on Mississippi State at 2 p.m. Saturday’s matches include Vanderbilt versus Mississippi State at 10 a.m. and Alabama versus Auburn at 1 p.m. The tournament concludes Sunday with Auburn facing Vanderbilt at 10 a.m. and Alabama playing Mississippi State at 1 p.m., according to the schedule provided by MSU athletics.

Four Bulldogs will compete in the event: Jacopo Borsoi, Roberto Ferrer Guimaraes, Segundo Goity Zapico, and Luigi Valletta. Borsoi, Goity Zapico, and Valletta will make their first appearances for the Bulldogs, while Guimaraes is the team’s only returning player. Guimaraes is in his fourth season at MSU, holding a 49-32 career record and coming off a quarterfinals appearance at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic.

Mississippi State holds a strong all-time record against the three opponents. The Bulldogs lead Alabama 41-26, Auburn 37-21, and Vanderbilt 48-14. They have won at least three straight matches against each team, including a 13-match winning streak over Auburn and an 11-match streak over Vanderbilt.
