Mississippi State fans to set world record for cowbell ringing during top-25 showdown with Missouri

STARKVILLE, Miss. — Mississippi State fans are preparing to break a world record for cowbell ringing during Saturday night’s game against Missouri at Davis Wade Stadium, according to the university’s athletics department.

The Bulldogs are hosting the No. 24 Tigers in a top-25 matchup that marks the first such game at Davis Wade since 2017. Fans are expected to fill the stadium and participate in the cowbell ringing at a designated point in the game, aiming to set a new world record, the department said.

State head coach Jeff Lebby expressed confidence in the environment, saying he expects a sold-out crowd that will be among the most intense in college football. “That environment will be as good as or better than anywhere in the country,” Lebby said, highlighting the team’s electric 3-0 start and recent national ranking.

Mississippi State opened the season with a record-setting 762 yards of offense against ULM and followed with a victory at Minnesota. Last weekend, the Bulldogs overcame a 16-point deficit to beat South Carolina, 41-34, in SEC play. The team’s strong start has garnered national attention, with the Bulldogs climbing to No. 24 in the Associated Press poll.

Players are eager to perform in front of the home crowd. Safety Isaac Smith called night games at Davis Wade “electric,” while Amaree Williams, the SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week, said it will be “crazy.” Fans are encouraged to buy tickets, wear white, and participate in the cowbell tradition to help set the record and create an unforgettable atmosphere in Starkville.
