Potts Camp opens with road win over Falkner
Potts Camp went on the road and held on for a hard fought victory over Falkner to start their 2022 season.
Under new coach Richard Russo, the Cardinals came away with a hard fought 28-22 victory over what Russo calls a much improved Eagle team.
Wyatt McDaniel had a rushing TD in the first quarter for Falkner and Chris Nunley recovered a Falkner fumble in the end zone for the Eagles second score but Potts Camp used a balanced offensive attack to hold a 21-14 lead at the break.
Potts Camp quarterback Peyton Aldridge led the offense with 15 carries for 136 yards anda trio of touchdowns. Aldridge also completed 5-8 passes for 106 yards.
Potts Camp rolled over Falkner 38-0 last season, but the Eagles brought back 20 starters and had a chance to tie or take the lead with 3 minutes to play on the 37 yard line but the Cardinals defense held firm.
Jeffrey Moore led with 17 tackles. Jamie Muse and Mattox Work each had double digit tackles as well. Ian Clifton and Drew Hogan each had a pair of interceptions and 8 tackles.
Potts Camp is back in action next week against KIPP Academy out of Memphis.
